Hyderabad/Amaravathi, April.21: A political satirist on social media Inturi Ravikiran was arrested by the AP police here in the wee hours on Friday.

According to reports, a dozen police men of Andhra Pradesh surrounded Ravikiran's house at Shamshabad at 3.30 am and whisked him away in a car without informing the family. The AP police men allegedly forced the house owner to call Ravikiran out and once the door was opened, they caught hold of Ravikiran and bundled him into their car waiting downstairs, said his wife Sujana.
When Sujana insisted as to why Ravikiran was being arrested, the cops said he was posting insulting satires on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his son Lokesh and the TDP. They gave no other clue about where he was being taken to. The AP police did not take permission from their Telangana counterparts for their operation in Hyderabad.

Police said under the heading “Political Punch” Ravikiran has been putting cartoons in the social media lowering the dignity of legislative bodies. On a picture of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, the cartoonist wrote as “A Certificate – Only for Adults” and posted in the social media.

It may be mentioned here that generally the Censor Board gives “A certificate” for movies which contain obscene scenes and gory violent scenes. Therefore, the chairman of AP Legislative Council took the cartoon of Inturi Ravikiran very serious and AP Legislature secretary Satyanarayana lodged complaints with the police and the Director General of Police against the cartoon with highly objectionable caption on the AP Council photo.

After the arrest of Ravikiran, the Andhra police reportedly shifting him to Amaravathi for interrogation and follow-up action. Speaking on the occasion, the AP Legislature secretary has warned that anybody making fun of the legislative bodies and lowering their dignity would be dealt with iron hand.
