Gujarat Wins Maiden Ranji Trophy Title

Long waiting ended. Gujarat won its maiden Ranji trophy title. Today it defeated current Ranji Champion Mumbai with 5 wickets and emerged as 2016-17 Ranji Trophy champions.

Mumbai has a tremendous track record in 'Ranji' history, which won 41 times. In the final match Mumbai Scored 228 runs & 411 runs in 1st & 2nd innings respectively. In response Gujarat made 328 & 313 runs in both innings.

Parthiv Patel did splendid job by scoring 90 and 143 runs in both innings. VVS Laxman specially appreciated Gujarat team and tweeted "Congratulations to @parthiv9 and the Gujarat team on winning the Ranji Trophy Inspirational stuff PP"

At present the competition was held between 27 teams, representing 21 states.

In 1934 July, Ranji trophy was started as "The Cricket Championship of India". Competition was named after Ranjitsinhji, well known as 'Ranji' was the 1st Indian cricketer who played Int. cricket
