Package better than status: Sujana

Sun, Sep 11, 2016, 07:11 PM
Hyderabad, Sept.11: Reiterating the Centre stance, Telugu Desam leader Union Minister Sujana Chowdhary today stated that package is better than special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh. Addressing a press conference, he expressed displeasure that some leaders are trying to misguide people on the issue.

The union minister said that Andhra Pradesh is not likely to get everything with the special tag as the Centre is ready to give funds to meet the expectations of the state. Stating that package will incur a single paise loss he clarified that the state would get only 90 per cent of funds through SCS the Centre has accepted to offer 100 per cent of funds for some development programs. He urged the people to understand that the Centre cannot give special status as per 14th finance commission norms.

The Centre has agreed to give more funds to the state than what it gets through special status and ready to offer complete help for its rapid development. He maintained that Andhra Pradesh is all set to witness rapid growth through proposed industrial corridors of Visakhapatnam-Chennai and Chennai-Bengaluru. In present circumstances the state will suffer a loss through special status than any benefits, he noted.

Sujana Chowdhary also said that the Centre is ready to bear all expenditure for Polavaram project, special funds for Rayalaseema, backward North Andhra districts, fill revenue deficit and special funds for the tax subsidy. Some of the assurances of the package have already been implemented he said adding that there is no doubt that the Centre will do complete justice to the state.
