Hyderabad, Sept.9: Former Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar today lashed out at the Centre for denying special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the media here on Friday, Undavalli accused the Centre of deceiving the people on the special status issue. Instead of implementing the promises made in Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the Centre was playing “dramas” he charged. The people of the residual State were dumped by the Centre, and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was not daring to pull up the NDA Government, he charged. He sought to know why the BJP Government at the Centre failed to implement a promise made in Parliament on the special status.

“The Centre is showing lame excuses on the issue saying that 14th Finance Commission was not in favour of the special status”, Arun Kumar thundered. Instead of reacting on the SCS, the Centre was talking about the package of no use, he fumed. He demanded that Chandrababu, who was not pressing the Centre on the issue should at least now tell the truth to the people. He also flayed that Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was talking irresponsibly on the key issue.

Arun Kumar also criticized Venkaiah Naidu for not keeping his promise of fulfilling the fiscal deficit gap to the Andhra Pradesh Government. Venkaiah Naidu, who sought the UPA Government to provide Rs 10,000 crore to the AP was now after coming to power at the Centre was denying the same, he alleged.

“None opposed the private member’s bill for the SCS moved by Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao in Rajya Sabha”, he said and alleged that the Centre was resorting to cheat the people of the State. He demanded that the BJP Government should honor the sentiments of the people and accord special status. Chandrababu, who is afraid of his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao that he may file cases, was not daring to talk about Hyderabad, he added.
