AP to facilitate five star rated appliances to the consumers

Hyderabad, Sept.4: In order to achieve substantial energy savings and reduce the burden on the power system, which provides economic relief to the electricity consumers and ultimately protects the environment for the posterity, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to make state as the most energy efficient one.

Accordingly the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the need to involve the entire government machinery for taking up of proactive role in Energy Efficiency & Energy Conservation (EE&EC) programs with a special focus on further facilitation of 5 star rated appliances to the consumers for the benefit of the state, as well as all stake holders in particular.

In tune with the objective of the Chief Minister, State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), Andhra Pradesh state is constituted to adopt an integrated approach to implement the comprehensive action plan to achieve desired goals in energy efficiency, duly involving all key departments. The state is at its best to capture the target set by Government of India for replacement of 77Crore ICL bulbs & installation of 35 lakhs LED street lights in the entire country, by distributing one crore LED bulbs in a record period of just one year and is leading in the country by installation of LED street lights to the tune of 4.7 Lakhs so far.

As a first of its kind, the state has introduced distribution of five star rated fans to the consumers. The state has been recognized as a role model state in energy efficiency by the Government of India. Inspite of these best performances, the power utilities and the SECM have to strive hard to enhance further the outreach of Star rated energy efficient (EE) appliances and other EE&EC activities, said, S.P.Tucker, Chief Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Government and Chairman SECM.

Accordingly, the Chief Secretary, who has decided to hold an Executive Committee meeting of SECM likely on September 6, with Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary, Energy I&I and Vice-chairman SECM, K.Vijayanand, CMD/APTRANSCO & MD/APGENCO, H.Y.Dora & M.M.Nayak CMD/DISCOMs and other top officials to discuss several issues for expediting the on going EE&EC programmes and devise measurable and sustainable goals with suitable action plan for the same, while reviewing the agenda for the meeting with Principal Secretary & CMD, AP Transco has directed to facilitate procurement of 5star rated appliances only by all Government Departments.

He further reiterated that the Chief Minister is very keen on the savings through UJALA scheme, as there is major scope for energy savings in lighting sector and instructed to carry out scientific & analytical 3rd party survey to quantify actual energy savings accrued due to the distribution of LED Bulbs.

Ajay Jain has informed the Chief Secretary that all the district collectors were requested to furnish the inventory details of equipment like fans, lights, etc., in all the Govt. offices under their purview to be replaced with Star rated appliances. Soon on receipt of information, action will be taken on top priority.

The Principal Secretary further informed that 3rd party survey for analyzing the savings through LED bulbs was carried out in four districts by prestigious institutions and it was found that there is considerable savings of 73.7 units per annum for each LED bulb. A similar exercise would be taken up in the remaining nine districts very soon.
