Hyderabad, Aug.31: Expressing loss of precious lives and properties following heavy rains in the city, Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao today directed the official machinery to gear up to provide necessary help and succor to the people.

KTR consoled the family members of the deceased and termed the incident as unfortunate. KTR held a high-level review meeting with the officials and said they are on the job to provide help to the affected people. In addition to Rs 2 lakh ex gratia announced by the government, the GHMC will also provide the same amount to the kin of the deceased family members and provide help under Apatbandhu scheme, he said.

The Minister asked the people to be extra alert as the rains are expected for two more days. He asked the people to remain indoors unless there is any important work outside as moderate rains are likely to hit the twin cities. He told media persons that officials were pressed into service to provide timely help of shifting the people to safe places from low-lying areas. Taking cue from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, KTR said the people should be cautious and avoid the problems as many areas are inundated with waters, clogging of roads, drainage, and others.

“We have found 1197 old houses in the twin cities which are on the verge of collapse due to heavy rains and the owners or those residing in them should vacate them and move to safe places”, he said. Of 203 complaints received so far, 83 were addressed and the machinery was on the job to provide help to the affected people, he said. The officials were asked to monitor the situation in the rain affected areas and provide necessary help, he said.
