Hyderabad, Aug.29: The Telangana Telugu Desam Party (TTDP) has demanded that the TRS government scrap the agreement inked with the Maharashtra government on irrigation projects immediately.

TTDP leaders, including L Ramana, A Revanth Reddy and others have taken up a rally from NTR Trust Bhavan to Jalasoudha located at Erramanjil here on Monday demanding that the government abolish the agreements on irrigation projects with Maharashtra State. The TTDP leaders have taken up dharna at Jalasoudha after reaching there.

Speaking on this occasion, the TTDP leaders alleged that the TRS government was mortgaging the interests of people of Telangana state. They made it clear that the TTDP MLAs would pull up the government on agreement with Maharashtra government. The water would be provided to the fields through canals up to 80 kilometers if the project constructed at Thummidihatti with the height of 152 kilometers.

The State has to bear Rs 50,000 crore additional burden if the project was constructed at Medigadda. The project needs 4700 MW power for the lifts operation and it needs Rs 40,000 crore. About one lakh crore additional burden will fall on the people with the redesigning of the projects, they alleged.

Describing the agreement with the Maharashtra as a fake one, TTDP leaders made it clear that the TTDP was opposing the agreement outrightly. The TRS government was throwing the rich state into debts, they claimed. The police arrested the TTDP leaders at Jalasoudha and shifted them to a police station. Due to TTDP dharna, the traffic was halted for some time from Lakdikapool to Erramanzil.
