CPI faults TS-Maha pact on irrigation projects

Sat, Aug 27, 2016, 07:39 PM
Hyderabad, Aug.27: The CPI has demanded that the State government restore the lands encroached by slain gangster Nayeem to the owners. It also alleged that the agreement signed with Maharashtra on irrigation projects was a great loss to the Telangana state.

Speaking to the media at Makdhoom Bhavan here on Saturday, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy demanded the state government to construct the projects with less expenditure in priority basis. Fearing that the Telangana state was going to face severe crisis in regard to irrigation projects, Chada suggested that the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao not to darken the lives of the people of Telangana.

Condemning the Chief Minister’s remarks that he would send the opposition leaders to jail, he demanded the state government to order CBI inquiry into Nayeem case. Questioning the Chief Minister to tell as to what he achieved while going to Maharashtra state and to tell as to why the TRS cadre indulged in celebrations, Chada reminded that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy too did the same thing. YSR said that all projects would be constructed simultaneously but not a single project was completed, Chada pointed out.

Stating that the agreement on Thummidihatti project at the height of 148 meters was a dangerous one, Chada said that the agreement would have taken place in the past with the height 148 meters. The water will come very less on gravity at the height of 148 meters. The agreement has given a chance to the Maharashtra government to utilize 13.5 TMCFT of water freely, he alleged. He also said the Congress party was criticizing the government on Thummidihatti project saying that the government’s figures were false and demanded the government to tell the correct figures of the projects.

Questioning the government to tell from where it would bring Rs.64,000crore for the Kaleswaram reservoir construction, Chada said that Rs.7,000 crore will be needed to land acquisition. About Rs.2lakh crore will be needed for the projects redesigned by the TRS government and it clearly shows that crisis will take place in irrigation projects sector in Telangana, he said. KCR’s statements were high but the works were very low, he alleged. The Chief Minister was threatening the opposition parties, saying that the government will file defamation cases and keep in jail if they questioned the government on projects.

Alleging that Nayeem activities spread in four states, Chada said that the Nayeem gang encroached lands of poor, innocent and various sections of people. The Inquiry into Nayeem activities through SIT will not be effective, he said and demanded CBI inquiry. He asked the government not to leave the persons behind Nayeem, whoever it may be. Chada demanded the government to initiate stringent action against the persons like Nayeem still exists in the society. He alleged that the government was disturbing the state in the name of districts reorganization and said that the government was not following suggestions made by the opposition parties in all-party meeting on districts reorganization.
