TS, Penang agree to work in high-end tech. & manufacturing

Hyderabad, Aug.24: Telangana and the Malaysian State of Penang have agreed to work closely in the fields of high-end technology, manufacturing and in improving cultural relations between the two States.
The visiting Malaysian delegation led by Deputy Chief Minister of Penang Dr P Ramaswamy met the Minister for Industries, IT, Municipal Administration K. T. Rama Rao today and discussed issues relating to mutual cooperation and economic collaboration between the two States. He said many leading Malaysian companies like IJM have invested in the State in the infrastructure sector. Both the States have deep-rooted connections and cultural affinities.

K T Rama Rao sought cooperation of Penang State in the manufacturing sector in which Penang State is a leader. Manufacturing is the most important component of the Penang economy. He said that a delegation from Telangana would visit the Penang Development Corporation to study the model adopted in creating employment opportunities.

The Penang Development Corporation is a self-funding statutory body aiming to enhance Penang’s socio-economic development to create employment opportunities. He said that the government is working to strengthen the manufacturing sector and create job opportunities. The government has identified fourteen sectors including life sciences, Information Technology and Defence and Aerospace as the focused sectors and sought investment in these sectors, the minister added.

Principal Secretary, Industries Commerce and Energy Arvind Kumar sought cooperation of Penang in the field of PV manufacturing as the State of Telangana has taken up an ambitious program for harnessing solar energy. He invited the PV manufacturers of Penang to invest in Telangana as there is a lot of potential in the State. Dr Ramaswamy said the Penang State was ready to cooperate with Telangana in the manufacturing sector and also in skill development. He sought cooperation of Telangana in the service sector and software development.
