Tributes paid to Prakasam Panthulu on his Birthday

Hyderabad, Aug.23: The 144th birth anniversary of Late Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu, the first Chief Minister of the erstwhile Andhra State, was celebrated in a grand manner by the AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation here today.

Dr. A. Chakrapani, Chairman, AP Legislative Council, Puranam Satish Kumar, MLC, Telangana State, Rudraraju Padmaraju, former MLC, AP, Venkat Changavalli, Managing Director, AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation, SV Rao, Chartered Accountant and representatives from Prakasam Institute of Development Studies, offered floral tributes at the statue of Prakasam Pantulu near the Assembly building.

Besides being Andhra State’s first CM during 1953-54, Prakasam Pantulu was former chief minister of Madras Presidency (1946-47) and a barrister of unmatched prowess in Chennai (then Madras).

Earlier, from 1921 to 1947 he took a leading part in the freedom movement under the guidance of Gandhiji, and earned the title of ‘Andhra Kesari’ (Lion of Andhra), for his bravery in facing the British police. He fought a political war and led a movement relentlessly for creation of the Andhra State by separating the Telugu districts from Madras Presidency/State.
