Mon, Aug 22, 2016, 07:26 PM
Hyderabad, Aug.22: A new historic pact will be signed between Telangana and Maharashtra on Godavari projects on August 23. To clear the decades’ long controversies related to Godavari, Penganga, Pranahitha and also other pending projects like Tummidihattti, Itchampalli and Lendi among the two riparian states, the Telangana Government will be striking a deal to cater to the needs of irrigation projects.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will sign the deal with his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis on August 23 in this regard. It is pertinent to note that the Telangana Chief Minister reiterated that his government would maintain cordial relations with the neighboring States to sort out the issues of irrigation projects pending for decades through discussions. The Telangana government is creating a new history with the Godavari pact, he said.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, in a press release, said the projects are pending for a long time as the previous governments failed to maintain cordial relations with neighbouring States like Maharashtra and Karnataka. He said the previous governments had shown the partisan attitude towards Telangana region that resulted in the current scenario in the irrigation sector.

The TRS Government has already made some fructifying efforts enabling the Maharashtra government to sign the deal. The projects on the Godavari are brought under an Inter-State Board comprising two chief ministers, irrigation ministers, officials and a Central government water resources official.
