AP to spend Rs 1,000 crore every year on energy efficient activities

Hyderabad, Aug.14: The Andhra Pradesh Government will spend Rs 1,000 crore every year on energy efficiency activities with the financial help from Union Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was taking initiatives to achieve the vision to be amongst top three States in the country by 2022 and second to none by 2029. As part the initiatives, the AP Govt has also decided to mention Energy Efficient programs and its benefits in the Independence Day speech of the Chief Minister.

Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary, Energy, Infrastructure and Investments Dept, who participated in the review meeting on the arrangements for the 70th Independence Day celebrations, along with Sai Prasad, Principal Secretary, CMO, K. Vijayanand, CMD/APTransco & MD/APGenco said the Chief Minister issued clear instructions to the Energy Department to put up special focus on taking up energy efficiency and conservation activities in a big way and to further create more awareness among the public regarding the Energy Efficiency activities being taken up by the government and ensure that the fruits of these schemes reached every consumer.

The CM also directed the officials to disseminate information on the tips to be followed by common consumers to save energy and reduce their electricity bills and habituate energy conservation as part of their lifestyle, which aids the task of government’s EE&EC policies for energy savings, reduction of pollution and protection of natural resources for posterity, Ajay Jain said.

He also said for the welfare of the farmers, the old and obsolete pump-sets will be replaced in a phased manner with Energy Efficient agricultural pump-sets, which leads to 30% to 35% energy savings and facilitate more water flow, without the burden of a single rupee on the farmers.
