Telangana houses to have 100% toilets by March 31, 2017

Telangana Urban development Minister K. Taraka Ramarao has proposed that all the dwellings in the State should have toilets by March 31, 2017. His ministry has prepared a five-phased action plan under which all houses in the State would have toilets by the deadline.

The original plan of achieving 100% toilet facility should have been announced by Chief Minster K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself on the second anniversary of State formation in June itself, but the target was not achieved, and the deadline had to be postponed.

In the first phase, 15 municipalities would be chosen with a view to completing the task of construction of toilets. After the target is reached, the toilet-construction work would be taken up in the rest 42 municipalities. In the second phase, work in 15 municipalities would be taken up. The work was expected to be completed by August 15.

The work would be completed in 11 other municipalities by October 2. Twenty-six municipalities would have 100% toilets by next January 26. The balance six municipalities would have to complete the work by March 31, 2017. Thus all the municipalities in the State would have 100% toilets by that deadline.

This would enable the Chief Minister to announce the construction of 100% toilets in the State by the third State formation day.

The manifesto of Swach Bharat- Swach Telangana reads: All cities and towns in Telangana become totally clean, sanitized, healthy, liveable, ensuring and sustaining good public health and environmental outcomes for all citizens, with a special focus on hygienic and affordable sanitation for the urban poor and women.
