KCR elicits ministers & officials' views on land acquisition

Thu, Aug 04, 2016, 03:33 PM
Following the Hyderabad High court striking down GO 123 of the Telangana government for acquiring lands for various projects, especially the Mallannasagar reservoir, the government is in a dilemma. While Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said the government would go in appeal against the verdict for a full bench hearing, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao tried for a way out by calling for a full meeting of the ministers and officials on Thursday.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister elicited their views to arrive at a decision.

Land acquisition became a big problem for the government as the opposition parties and the farmers themselves were opposing the GO 123 as against the provisions under the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, which gave them reasonable compensation.

The Telangana government has lined up many irrigation projects and has to acquire lands for all the projects.
