Boxer Mary Kom throws a punch for Olympians in RS

Star boxer Mary Kom raised her first issue in three months after being nominated to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, asking for better food and training arrangements for the Indian athletes competing abroad. The former world champion raised concerns over the facilities provided to Indian athletes who would participate in international sporting events. Mary Kom's intervention during Question Hour was regarding the ideal diet and training for athletes representing the country in the events abroad. Though she missed on a Rio quota, the Manipuri boxer conveyed her best wishes to the Indian Olympic contingent from the floor of the house. Sports minister Vijay Goel assured her that his ministry would look into the issues and any other specific complaints. He also informed the house that the government had spent anything from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 1 crore on training each of the 119 players representing India in the Rio Olympics. Compared to Star boxer Mary Kom, who put her first question in 3 months, it took Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar 3 years to ask his first question. This shows how exclusive the game of cricket is as compared to athlectics and boxing, where there's no money.
