If NADA spares Narasingh Yadav, WADA may not

Wed, Aug 03, 2016, 12:08 PM
The Indian Olympic contingent is in the grip of doping scandals. Wrestler Narsingh Yadav may have been spared by the National Anti-Doping Agency, but the World Anti-Doping Agency has already said it would subject Narsingh to a dope test. While NADA may have given a consideration to Narsingh, WADA would give no such consideration. Narsingh, who was found doping in two tests in 10 days, has no guarantee he would test one way or other at the level of Olympics.

The latest candidate found doping was sprinter Dharam Vir Singh who was taken off from the airport while he was boarding the plane for Rio. He was found doping by the lab and taken off the plane.

Members in the Olympian contingent are increasingly found doping. Since there are no sentimental considerations at the world level, the Indian Olympian officials should be very strict. If they don't the stigma that befell Russia would befall India also.

India is already notorious as the third most doping nation after Russia and Italy. The officials may have taken Narsingh to Rio as a medal prospect, but they must ensure that he doesn't test positive again.
