Implement AP Reorganisation Act in letter & spirit: Sukhendu Roy

Fri, Jul 29, 2016, 12:24 PM
Taking part in the discussion on the KVP Ramachandra Rao Private Member Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday night, Sukhendu Roy, West Bengal MP, noted jeeringly that the BJP and the Congress waxed eloquent on the AP Reorganisation Bill those days. Now the BJP was ignoring the Act.

He noted that on one occasion during the debate on the AP Bill, he was suspended from the House along with CM Ramesh (TDP MP)

Roy told the BJP-led government to respect the AP Reorganisation Act and implement it in letter and spirit.

At the same time, he pointed out that the financial situation of some of the States was pathetic. They were facing a debt burden. In fact, 10 states were facing severe debt burden. Therefore, there was a need to call all the Chief Ministers of the States concerned and give them assurances like AP was given, and fulfill them. He noted that the State governments were in no position to pay the salaries of their staff.

In this connection, he said the Centre had scrapped 39 Central schemes in which the States were sharing revenue. The Centre was indebted to West Bengal to the tune of Rs 6500 crore dues.

He further pointed out that the Centre could mint money in its security presses, but the States could not. There was a security press in West Bengal, but it was closed down.

Chair Basavaraj Patil expressed his wholehearted support in Sukhendu Raoy's endeavour.
