KTR proposes 24-online service for NRIs as part of draft overseas policy

IT and NRI Affairs Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday asserted that the government would provide all help to the people going abroad from Telangana by setting up a Centre to settle their issues.

At a seminar on proposed NRI Policy and modalities in Hyderabad, the Minister mulled over bringing in the best NRI policy for Telangana which would become model for the country.

The NRI Policy will sure prove handy, as it will help those planning to go abroad to get complete information related to higher education, jobs, Acts overseas and creating awareness.

KTR expressed concern that about 10 per cent people going abroad are facing a lot of problems. He noted that the government is committed to protecting NRIs’ interests by creating awareness among them by divulging details of colleges, Acts abroad and related information.

This committee will look into the problems of NRIs, he asserted. A 24-hour helpline has been set up. He said a one-time registration facility would be in place for those willing to go abroad.

A corpus fund to help those who returned and facing problems and offering ex gratia to the kin of deceased NRIs would also be created.

The minister also promised details pertaining to black-listed colleges abroad would be made online for the knowledge of the students going for higher studies overseas.
