BJP agrees to vote on KVP Bill, but Chair says no

Tue, Jul 26, 2016, 03:47 PM
The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday again brushed with the KVP Ramachandra Rao Private Member's Bill, demanding special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.

As the Congress continued with the demand for a discussion and voting on the Bill, the YCP member, Vijaysai Reddy, articulated his charge that it was the Congress that had divided the State and he had something to say on the subject. Getting up as the demand was being made, the YCP member said he would like to make a special mention later, to which Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien agreed.

Immediately, CM Ramesh (TDP) arose and demanded a vote on the bill. He was followed by Science Minister Sujana Chowdary who made the same demand.

The Minister in-charge for the Rajya Sabha, Muqtar Abbas Naqvi, said since both the sides were present in strength and want a discussion and voting, he had no objection.

But the Chair had the objection this time, because the Deputy Chairman had already ruled that the discussion should be taken up on alternative Friday, which is the rule for the Private Member's Bills.

The Congress continued by rushing to the well of the House and demanding immediate discussion.

The Chair stood by its ruling.
