While Gujarat exports beef, Dalits are made victims: CPI

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India has condemned the brutal treatment being meted out to Dalit boys and politics being played in Gujarat against the weaker section.

In a statement released in New Delhi on Thursday, the CPI stated that the Gujarat government did not take cognizance of the violence even after large-scale protests erupted in the State with angry youth coming out in the streets. “The Chief Minister visited the place after nine days of the ghastly event. Allowing these issues to remain unattended seemed aimed at gaining electoral advantage in the mind of the BJP leadership”, it added.

“It is widely known that huge consignments of meat are exported from Gujarat by various private companies, mostly owned by the majority community and nobody even raised the issue, but the Dalits were being made the target of caste hatred. The atrocities on Dalits are on the rise in all the BJP-ruled States and the Central and State governments have the moral responsibility to control the situation,' it said.

The CPI also demanded that the government order a judicial inquiry into the issue to find out the vigilante groups and their mentors and fund raisers. These groups are targeting Dalit community ruthlessly perpetuating the caste divide in society.

The guilty must be given stringent punishment to send out a clear message to check such inhuman and unlawful activities. The victims must be properly compensated, the CPI demanded.

The CPI also condemned the comment of BJP UP vice-president Dayashankar Singh on BSP president Mayawati, which is “most uncultured and shameful”. “This is not accidental or stray comment and Prime Minister Narendra Modi deliberately avoided to snub his ministers and MPs when they issued derogatory statements, comments and attacks by Hindutva groups on Dalits and Minorities. Rather they are encouraged to carry on the attacks”, it added.

The CPI called upon the party units and people to protest against attacks on Dalits and ugly comments referring to Mayawati.
