Hyderabad, July 19: On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima on Tuesday, devotees of Shri Shiridi Saibaba thronged His temple all over the country since early hours. The Sai temples were reverberated with the chanting of “Sai Shiva Hari Om” by the ecstatic devotees throughout the day.

In Telangana State, especially in the capital city of Hyderabad, hundreds of devotees visited Sai temples in Dilsukhnagar, Dwarakapuri Colony in Punjagutta, Padmarao Nagar in Secunderabad, Film Nagar and offered “Palabhisekhams” and special pujas to the presiding deity.

There were serpentine queues at the temples and police officials found difficult to manage the devotees thronged in large numbers. Most of the devotees comprised women clad in silk clothes and their wards in new clothes, while elderly men found in traditional dhotis and shawls. As religious activities soar high at each and every temple, the devotees caught up in festival mood and fervor in Hyderabad and adjoining Ranga Reddy district.

Several special programs and Annadanam were organized at the popular Shirdi Saibaba temples in Dilsukhnagar, Punjagutta, and Filmnagar in the twin cities. Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupathi, Rajahmundry, Kurnool, Kadapa and other parts of AP wore a festive atmosphere.

The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Maharshi Veda Vyasa, who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavatam.

Veda Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus. On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'.

Shirdi Saibaba gave utmost priority to Guru Purnima and advised his followers to celebrate Vyasa Purnima as Guru Purnima.
