Sat, Jul 16, 2016, 03:36 PM
Chairing the Inter-State Council at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, Prime Minister Naredndra Modi said country's internal security and challenges needed to be addressed today. Internal security cannot be strengthened unless intelligence sharing was the focus.

Excerpts from his remarks:

Quite happy that the States have got 21% more funds than what they got last year.

Dr Ambedkar had said that improving society was as difficult as finding heaven. In the path of social welfare, there are fewer friends and more critics.

The nation can only progress if the State governments and the Centre worked shoulder to shoulder.

We get fewer opportunities where heads of the country and the States all come togeter. He quoted Atal Behari Vajpyee to say `For a big country like India, debate, deliberation, discussion affect policies.'

The BJP-led government's priority is to push the Goods and Services Taxes Bill through Parliamentand make it a law.
