Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh on Friday reiterated that the Narendra Modi government was committed to the development of both the Telugu-speaking States.

Talking to mediapersons in Hyderabad on Friday at the State BJP office, the Union minister said the Centre had taken various measures to protect the interests of farmers for increasing their income as well as produce.

“Our government has taken steps to minimize the cost of agriculture by introducing various schemes like providing seed, fertilizers and loans for planting at lower rate of interest. The low-cost high production was the aim of the Modi government”, Singh added.

Radha Mohan Singh said it was the State governments’ responsibility of providing benefits given by the Centre to the people and subsidy given to farmers also should reach them.

Detailing the Modi government’s measures to help farmers in Telangana State, the Union minister said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 874.9 crore under the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) during the natural calamities like floods and drought for the State in the last two years. This was against the previous Congress-led UPA government releasing only Rs 153.6 crore to the then united Andhra Pradesh State in the previous five years.

Expressing concern over the tardy pace of providing soil cards to farmers for soil-testing in Telangana, for which the Centre had released Rs 40 crore during the last two years, the Union minister urged the State government to speed up the process and issue soil health cards to the farmers.

The NDA government also sanctioned one horticulture university, three Agriculture Business Incubation centers, one food-testing lab, seven new varsities of field crops, including a high Zink-rich variety of rice for the Telugu States, Singh said.

The Modi government was very particular in implementing the Fasal Bima Yojana for the welfare of the farmers. He urged the State government to educate the farmers about the Bima Yojana.
