Junk food banned in Punjab schools

Fri, Jul 15, 2016, 04:11 PM
If Kerala had made pizza too dear for the young, Punjab has gone a step ahead and banned junk food totally from the State schools. Both the government and private schools in Punjab will not allow junk food anymore.

Owing to the presence of salt and sugar in higher quantities in junk food, some of the schoolchildren were suffering from hypertension, obesity and diabetes, it was stated.

Along with health problems, some of the children were developing neurological problems also, according to Human Rights Commission chief Suresh Kalia.

Following several committees recommending ban on junk food in schools, the decision was taken, he added.

With junk food banned, the children may have to enjoy jalebis, samosas and lassi.
