Wed, Jul 13, 2016, 03:27 PM
Imran Bathook, the key accused in the Godhra train burning incident in 2002, which took a toll of 59 lives of Ram sevaks returning from Ayodhya, was nabbed by the Ahmedabad crime branch from Malegaon in Maharashtra. The arrest of the accused was effected jointly by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Gujarat.

Significantly, the accused was arrested from Malegaon, which is a communally sensitive town in Maharashtra.

The other key accused, Farooq Mohammed, who scaled the A6 bogie with a kerosene can and set it on fire, was already arrested in Ahmedabad.

The cruel burning of train at Godhra triggered off the unprecedented post-Godhra violence in Gujarat, taking a toll of some 1000 lives.
