Lions on the prowl in Jungadh & Amreli in Gujarat

Wed, Jul 13, 2016, 11:44 AM
The Gir lions in Gujarat are famous for their indifference to man's encroaching their sanctuary. But in search of food, they are coming out of their sanctuary this year.

The other day in Jungadh town, as many as eight lions, including two cubs, exhibited their royal presence in the night. The people simply clicked away at their smartphones, putting off their fears. The lucky ones uploaded their videos in the social media.

In a rare attack on the humans, in the neighbouring Amreli, a pride of three lions attacked a man and injured him recently. He was a shepherd, according to local officials. But then the frequency of lions encroaching into human habitation is increasing, which is causing fear among the people.

Three people have been killed by lions in Amreli since March, and 13 lions have been caged following the attack. There was an attack by lions on a woman in Somnath district.
