Harithaharm to set Three records

Hyderabad, July 7: Telangana, the youngest state of India, is going to set three records by taking up the flagship program of Harithaharm on Friday.

The green drive being started by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao by planting a sapling at Choutappal on the outskirts of Hyderabad in Nalgonda district, will set a record by kick-starting the planting of 46 crore saplings and give a pleasant environment on the national highways with colourful trees of flowers, fruits, shadow and medicinal plants. This apart, in Hyderabad alone arrangements have been made to plant 25 lakhs of saplings which is another record, and the third record is that the greenery program will be taken up on the 163 km stretch of national highway connecting Vijayawada.

The aim of the green drive is to increase the forest cover to 33 per cent from existing 24 percent in the state while national green cover is just 22 per cent. Green drive will help bring rains, check pollution and send monkeys back to the forests besides enabling the people and living creatures to make a better living amid conducive atmosphere. The massive afforestation drive beginning Friday will continue for two weeks and KCR has asked the officials to distribute the saplings to the people through hundreds of nurseries and distribution points.

KCR directed the Ministers, MLAs, MPs, MLCs, other peoples’ representatives, officials, self help groups, women, NGOs, students and people to participate and involve in a big way to make success the green drive at their home districts, towns and villages. As many as 25 departments of the government prepared plans to make the green program a success and on completion of the plantation drive and in the days to come, the state of Telangana will indeed adorn the enticing green look to the people passing by the roads.

As part of planting 230 crore saplings through 4213 nurseries in next three years, a plan is taking shape by planting 100 crore saplings in forest area, 120 crore saplings in social forestry, and 10 crore saplings in Hyderabad alone. It was planned to plant a total of 10 crore saplings in parks, offices and vacant places including 7 crore in HMDA limits, 3 crore in GHMC limits, and officials are getting ready to plant 25 lakh saplings from 100 nurseries on July 11.
