Bhongir fort to be developed as world-class destination

The Bhongir Fort in Nalgonda will be developed into a favorite tourist and adventure destination by the Tourism & Archeology departments. The State government has decided to spend Rs 50 crore for developing this monolith rocky hill, Tourism & Culture Minister A Chandulal said on Tuesday.

During a review meeting with officials at the Secretariat, the minister said a rope-way would be put in place and related works would begin in four weeks. The meeting focused on the facilities and infrastructure.

The meeting was attended by Minister G Jagadish Reddy, local MP Dr Boora Narsaiah Goud, Government Advisor KV Ramana Chary, Tourism secretary B Venkatesham and Commissioner Christina Z Chongthu, Archaeology Director Vishalakshi and officials.

Through ropeway, the tourists can see the prominence of the Bhongir Fort and structural beauty and elegance of the construction. The Fort which falls between the historic Golconda and Warangal Forts has historic significance and the government decided to turn it into a tourist and adventure destination in Telangana.

As part of the program, adventure sports training would be imparted at the Bhongir fort to youth who aim to scale various mountains, he said. The fort depicts the rare arts of the ages of Kings and monumental wonder that will surely attract tourists from India and abroad.

It was also decided to construct suitable accommodation facility, meditation centre, museum, sound and lighting show, laser show, he stated. The fort is spread over 40 acres comprising an enticing monolith mountain, strong stone walls, tough arches, zeal and zest of the Kings who encouraged arts and expertise of sculptors, wealth of statues.

The historic magnificence of the Bhuvanagiri (popular as Bhongir) would be shown to the tourists and posterity, Chandulal maintained.
