Tue, Jul 05, 2016, 05:52 PM
With 100 plus entries, the First Telangana State Regatta started with a bang and the youth class first day was dominated by Nethra Kumaran of Tamil Nadu who took two firsts in a series of 3 races during the morning session on Tuesday.

Vishnu Saravanan of Andhra Pradesh, who is the current national champion in the Youth class, sailed well and came first in the second race and it was a tight battle all across the third race with Nethra and Vishnu within a few feet of each other across the 30-minute race. But Vishnu broke his mast during the second last leg and had to retire pushing him to overall 4th with 14 penalty points with Nethra leading with just 4 penalties.

Tanishq Desai of Telangana had three spectacular starts and he led the fleet for the most part of the first leg, but sheer experience and tactical superiority had Nethra and Vishnu get past him. He leads the Telangana pack and is overall placed 3rd in the Open with 13 penalty points.

The First Telangana State Regatta has two trophies in each group , one for the Open and one State Trophy and Tanishq Desai of DRS International School seems certain of winning the State Trophy if his current form continues for the next 3 days of racing.

The First Telangana State Regatta started with some fresh monsoon breeze gusting upto 25 knots and the sailors representing 5 states hit the waters and the Telangana Sailing Association has set up a fresh new course format that has a slalom like finish making the racing tight and interesting.
