Ramdas Athavle forgets to say name during oath

Tue, Jul 05, 2016, 12:06 PM
Of the 19 ministers added to the Narendra Modi ministry on Tuesday, only Ramdas Athavle of the RPI stood out by not saying his name when the President Pranab Mukherjee said, `I' at the oath-taking ceremony.

Ramdas went on to take the oath straight away, but the President had to remind him in Hindi that he had to say his name first.

Even during the taking of the oath of office and secrecy, Ramdas gave long pauses between words, and the President had to say the word to prompt Ramdas to repeat. In the event, the President very particularly congratulated Ramdas when he paid courtesy after signing in the Council of Ministers register in his blue turban.

Prakash Jawdekar was the first to take the oath as Cabinet Minister in the reshuffle of the Modi Ministry. Piyush Goel, who was expected to be promoted, had missed the bus this time. Javdekar was the only minister to be promoted to the Cabinet rank.

Bycicle MP Arjun Meghwal, MP from Bikaner and Chief Whip of the BJP in the Lok Sabha, also took the oath as minister. He rode on a bicycle to the ceremony.

Arjun Ram Meghwal had asked for permission for grand entry into the Rashtrapati Grounds on his bicycle for the swearing-in ceremony.

Two others, Mansukhbhai Mandavia and Anil Dave, had also shown interest on coming by bicycles.
