Judicial staff joins lawyers stir, paralyze courts all over State

Hyderabad, July 1: The agitating lawyers on Friday boycotted courts all over the State, including High Court and took out rallies demanding speedy bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court and cancel the “option rule” given to judges to stay back in Telangana State.

Some 8,000 members of Judicial Employees’ Associations also joined the striking lawyers all over the State and went on an indefinite strike, paralysing the functioning of courts. The lawyers staged a dharna at Indira Park and leaders of political parties extended their support to the lawyers' agitation. They demanded an early division of the High Court, cancellation of options given to Andhra judges to stay back in Telangana and reinstatement of judges, who were suspended last week for participating in the agitation.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders reiterated that the agitation would be intensified if the Centre failed to respond immediately and initiate the process of bifurcation of High Court. Around 200 judges from Telangana are on a mass leave in protest against the suspension of the 11 judicial officers amid the ongoing stir over the provisional allocation of judicial officers from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana courts.
