Stating that Hyderabad remained totally peaceful on Friday, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy appealed to the citizens not to believe rumors being floated through the social media.

The city police chief said the police personnel in all the areas were on high alert and no untoward incident was reported in any part of the city as elaborate bandobust was made for the last Friday prayers.

Mahender Reddy said 2,000 police personnel were deployed in the Old city on account of prayers on last Friday under the supervision of an Inspector- General cadre police officer.

After inspecting bandobust arrangements at Charminar, Mahender Reddy said Rapid Action Force personnel as well as Special Police men were deployed in the sensitive areas in the city to prevent untoward incidents and to ensure peace and maintenance of law and order.

Hyderabad South Zone DCP Satyanarayana has said CC cameras were installed around the Bhagyalakshmi temple situated at the base of the Charminar in view of terrorist threat to the temple.

Speaking to mediapersons after inspecting the security arrangements at the temple as well as at the Mecca Masjid, Satyanarayana said they could arrest the terrorist suspects by tracking net chatting and mobile conversations in the city. He also said they have stepped up vigilance on activities of Internet and security was tightened in the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas in the Old city.
