Leopard hunting deer `captured' on Tirumala

Thu, Jun 30, 2016, 11:28 AM
Leopards are increasingly coming into the Tirumala Hills for hunting deer that have a sanctuary on the hills.

A leopard waited at the water tank behind the Kausthubham guest house in Tirumala, as it came hunting down a deer owing to the traffic noise neary. It roared at the devotees for disturbing its hunt. The devotees who were passing by in their vehicles captured the whole thing in their smartphones. They have uploaded the scenes on the social media.

Leopards have been spotted at various places in the Tirumala. There was one leopard attack on a boy at the foothills in September 2013. The boy trekking up the hill was injured. In 2010, there was an attack on a girl.

There is a heavy rush of pilgrims in the Tirumala throughout the year, and leopards generally keep away from human habitation.
