Telangana Seed Scientist elected to international Board

Dr K. Keshavulu. Director, Telangana State Seed Certification Agency, in Hyderabad has been elected as Member of Executive Committee of International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) for three consecutive years (2016–2019).

The elected governing body is voted by country representatives from across the world. They voted at ISTA Congress 2016 held at Tallinin, Estonia, from June 15 to 21.

Dr Keshavulu Kunusoth, known as Seed Scientist, is currently the Director, Telangana State Seed Certification Agency, Hyderabad.

ISTA was founded in 1924 as an international, inter-governmental organization operating under the governments of its member-countries. Its mandate is to develop, adopt and publish standard procedures for sampling and testing seeds, and to promote uniform application of these procedures for evaluation of seeds moving in international trade.

Dr Keshavulu was born on July 10, 1970, in Warangal District and holds a B. Sc (Ag) and M.Sc (Ag) from Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad, Ph D from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, and Post-Doctoral Research in Seed Science and Technology from University of California, Davis, USA. He worked with a world renowned Seed Scientist Dr Kent J. Bradford of USA.

He is recipient of prestigious Young Scientist (BOYSCAST) Fellowship Award of the Government of India in 2009. He has made significant contributions in the areas of seed biology, seed production, seed research, quality control and varietal identification and assessment of genetic purity which are helpful for seed industry and in implementation of PPV &FR Act, 2001.
