Dogs having field day in Hyderabad

Wed, Jun 29, 2016, 11:20 AM
Street dogs are having their day in Hyderabad. Some 62,000 people were bitten by dogs in the last year, according to a survey report of Narayanguda's Institute of Preventive Medicine. If you take into account the number of people going to private hospitals for treatment for dog bite, the figure would be staggering.

One of the latest victims of dog bite is three-year-old Amanullah of Bandlaguda. The dogs bit and almost tore apart his skull. The neighbours who were alert shooed the dogs away and got him admitted to hospital. The boy is surviving the attack in the hospital.

The deadly rabies results if dog bite goes untreated. In the old days, people were administered 24 injections in the stomoch to prevent rabies. These days a few injections are enough.

The civic authorities are expected to carry out rabies immunization on stray dogs in the city.
