Chittoor parents mercy death plea for their baby

Thu, Jun 23, 2016, 04:28 PM
A distraught couple of Chittoor district have appealed for mercy death for their eight-month-old baby, Gnanasai, on the ground that they could not afford the Rs 80 lakh required for the operation on the baby for its healthy growth.

The couple, Ramanappa and Saraswati, of Battalapuram in Mulakalacheruvu mandal, have approached the Tamballapalle court, seeking mercy petition. They informed the court that they have already spent Rs 5 lakhs for the operation on the child in Bangalore, as the baby was born with a deformed stomoch.

The Bangalore doctors had told them that a major operation was required for the stomoch replacement which might cost Rs 80 lakh. They do not have the money, and they were already indebted because of the earlier operation. Hence they sought the mercy plea.

The court that considered the matter told the parents that they were not competent to deal with the case. Hence they should approach the High Court.
