Not an extra-drop to be given or taken from Krishna, Harish Rao clarifies

Thu, Jun 23, 2016, 02:29 PM
Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao on Thursday made it clear that there was no question of losing a drop of water belonging to Telangana and the State would not draw one drop of extra-water either.

Harish Rao went to Delhi for the talks under the auspices of the Union Irrigation Ministry about AP compalint against irrigation projects initiated by Telangana such as Palamuru-Rangareddy and Dindi on the Krishna. He met his Andhra counterpart Devineni Uma there, but their talks did not yield any solution.

He said in this context that Telangana would draw water as per the Bachawat Tribunal. He further said that Telangana was not worried even if all the State projects were broght under the ambit of the Krishna River Management Board. Therefore, Telangana would not want any single project to be exempted under the ambit of the board either. He is probably referring to the Pattiseema project by which AP had interlinked the Krishna and the Godavari rivers to prevent the latter river waters flowing into the sea.

He added that the board should supervise over water allocations to all the riverine States.

Saying so, he added that not a drop would be ignored and not an extra-drop would be taken.
