Wed, Jun 08, 2016, 11:25 AM
The US on Tuesday vowed to stand with India against threats from Pakistan-based groups and asked Islamabad to punish the perpetrators of the attack on Pathankot airbase treating it on a par with 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Washington specifically told Islamabad to punish the Pak actors of JeM, LeT and Dawood Company for the terrorist attacks against India.

A joint statement issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama meeting at the White House said: `They (Obama and Modi) called the perpetrators of the 2008 and 2016 attacks to justice.'

At their meeting, Obama and Modi acknowledged the continued threat posed to human civilisation by terrorism and condemned the recent attacks from Paris to Pathankot and from Brurssels to Kabul.

`They resolved to redouble their efforts, bilaterally and with other like-minded countries, to bring to justice the perpetrators of terrorism anywhere in the world and the infrastructure that supports them,' the joint statement said.

The US President and the Indian Prime Minsiter committed themselves for co-operation to face terrorism threats from extremist groups, including Al Qaida, ISIS/Daesh, Jaish-e-Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, D Company and their affiliates. They also wanted deepened collaboration on UN terrorist designations.

Crucially, the two countries resolved to continue with the co-operation on the anti-terrorism front into the next US regime by directing the new officials to identify specific new areas of collaboration at the next meeting of the US-India counter-terrorism joint working group.

They also resolved to share the terrorist-screening information.

Supporting the UN Comprehensive convention on International terrorism, they resolved that no cause or grievance should justify terrorism.
