1 lakh IT jobs lost in US in May

Some 100,000 IT jobs were lost in the US in May, according to trade body CompTIA. The disappointment for the IT sector was part of the overall downturn in US economy in May. Non-farm payrolls increased by only 38,000 last month, the worst in 5 years. Tim Herbert, senior vice-president CompTIA, said May was a down month for the IT sector and IT occupation employment. Last month, the IT sector shed 96,000 jobs and stood at an estimated 4.45 million in the US. `The data indicates some employers are hodling off on adding additional headcount or reassessing their IT skills needs,' the CompTIA analysis suggests. There are some 700,000 H1 B visa holders in USA. Most of them come from India.
