Apollo Group gets notices to produce all kidney transplant records

While the Delhi police have formed teams to track down the kingpin behind the kidney racket in the country, notices have been issued to the Apollo Group of Hospitals to produce records for the kidney operations done by them at various places in the country. The notices have been given under Sections 160 and 190 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The police suspect that besides the Apollo Group, the kidney transplants have been done by several other hospitals in the country.

The kidney transplant racket created a sensation. Apart from Delhi, Jalandhar, Coimbatore and West Bengal. Raj Kumar had links with several other hospitals. The transplants fetched Rs 25 to Rs 30 lakh each, and only 10% went to the donor. Bulk of the money was shared among the doctor who conducted the operation to the middleman who persuaded the poor donor to donate the kidney. Apollo group doctors actively cooperated in the racket, it is alleged.

The Delhi police said the poor donors were fooled into parting with their kidneys.

In fact, patients suffering rom kidney probelms were advised by various hospital doctors to consult Raj Kumar first. At present, Raj Kumar in is on the run and the police teams are searching for him.
