What's point in playing flute to buffaloes? Ajit Jogi

Fri, Jun 03, 2016, 12:00 PM
What is the point in playing flute to buffaloes, is the likely parting shot by Ajit Jogi to the Congress. He is getting all set to start his own party in Chattisgarh.

The comment did not amuse the local Congress leadership. Party in-charge in Chattisgarh Shilesh Nitin Trivedi said in reaction that the party kept Ajit Jogi under observation. Trivedi believed the buffaloes comment was aimed at the party leadership.

Jogi contends that Trivedi and others were not able to take on the ruling BJP in Chattisgarh because of their involvement in land deals. Besides, the party had no more leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru right down to Sonia Gandhi. Now that she was trying to opt for rest, he feared there won't be receptive leaders left in the party.

The Congress, which used to regard regional leaders as no more than satraps, is losing local leaders and paying in the elections. Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam had left the party, joined the BJP, and was instrumental in lifting the latter to power in the State. In Uttarakhand, Vijay Bahuguna was instrumental in bringing down the Harish Rawat government. Now Ajit Jogi is all set to abandon the Grand Old Party and form his own.
