Suresh Raina shows hidden talents in IPL

Mon, May 23, 2016, 05:41 PM
Suresh Raina is showing talent not many suspected of him. It's an open secret that he is vulnerable to bouncers, but that is his strong point this IPL series shows.

All teams are aiming bouncers at his head. Conscious of it, Raina is hitting those bouncers all over the ground beyond the reach of the fielders. Now is he weak or strong in facing fast bowling?

Another talent that he has closely guarded all these years is his leadership qualities. With one talented batsman Brendon McCullum in the team, Raina is winning match after match. Former New Zealand Captain, Brendon says Raina is cool on and off the pitch, which is obviously his strength.

Billed as stop-gap team, Gujarat Lions have surprised the best of IPL teams and have reached the final stage. If Raina indeed pulls it off, or at least reaches the finals, then he stands a chance to be considered for the short version games of Team India also.

Having played in all nine IPLs, Raina has more runs than even Virat Kohli, called the Indian run machine. Raina and Kohli will face off in Bangalore on Tuesday. That should decide their respective merits.

Raina played the semi-final in T20 World Cup recently, but he neither batted nor bowled in the crucial match for India. Was it a let down by Captain and friend Mahendra Singh Dhoni? With so many talents endowed in him, Raina needs to be treated better.
