Unique swearing-in of Jaya, 26 ministers in TN

Mon, May 23, 2016, 01:37 PM
Tamil Nadu is unique in many respects. So it was the case with the swearing-in of Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister once again on Monday. As usual, she took the Oath of Office and Secrecy alone. But all the 26 ministers took the oath in a chorus after telling their respective names.

They stood in a queue, revealing their names one after the other. Then they took the oath simultaneously.

The Tamils are a unique people. They have their customs, traditions and practices, which they would always hold the uppermost. Instead of Sri honorific which the rest of the Indians use, they have their Thiru. Married women are addressed as Thirumati and unmarried as Selvi.

Thus Selvi J. Jayalalithaa took over as Chief Minister. Thiru O. Pannerselvan as Minister for Finance and Public Works, and Tmt. B. Valarmathi took the oath as Minister for Social Welfare, Nutritious Noon Meal Programme and Animal Husbandry.
