Sat, May 21, 2016, 01:23 PM
The Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Houses are rich men's clubs ruling over the lives of the poor people in the States. The average assets of an MLA works out to Rs 8.21 crore in Tamil Nadu. In Puducherry, as many as 26 of the 30 MLAs are crorepathies.

The affidavits filed by the candidates for contesting the TN assembly elections reveal that 170 of the elected members are crorepathis. Those who have assets over Rs 100 crore include Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Congress MLA Nenguneri Vasantkumar (Rs 337 crore) and DMK MLA M.K. Mohan (Rs 170 crore).

In the neighbouring Puducherry, almost all are crorepatis in the newly elected House, except for four MLAs.

The other statistics of the Tamil Nadu assembly include that those who are aged between 31 and 70 numbered 170. Sixty percent of the members are graduates and above.

Interestingly, 62% of the 140 members in the newly elected Kerala Assembly have criminal cases against them.
