Thousands calling on fasting Jagan in Kurnool

Tue, May 17, 2016, 11:01 AM
YS Jaganmohan Reddy, YCP leader, is getting increasing response from leaders and farmers for his `Jaladeeksha' (fasting for waters for Rayalaseema and Krishna delta) in Kurnool on the second day of fasting on Tuesday.

Since overnight, there has been no let or hindrance for the people calling on him to express their solidarity. People called on him till 2 am on Tuesday. At that time, Jagan got down from the podium for ablutions, and immediately got back to fasting. In the morning, the people began pouring in again to justify the fast programme, when not a drop of water is flowing to Pothireddypadu that branches from the Krishna to supply waters to the Rayalaseema districts.

For the waters to flow to Pothireddypadu, the water level at Srisailam has to be at a minimum level of 854 ft. As Jagan alleges, the water level at Srisailam is less than 800 ft now.

The Krishna waters are going to be increasingly used by Telangana which claims its share of the river waters by constructing many new projects such as Rangareddy and Dindi, which will mean the end of supply to Srisailam to Pothireddypadu and to Nagarjunasagar downstream for the Krishna delta districts.

Jagan is not supposed to have touched even a glass of water, according to the observers. Even so he is smiling and talking to all the visiting leaders and farmers.

Jagan's health parameters are expected to be tested this afternoon. The YCP followers are also arriving at the venue of the fast in their thousands.

Jagan's fast has given rise to more relay fasts in Anantpur district. Anantpur YCP leader Anantnarayana appealed to the people that they should all go to Kurnool to express solidarity with Jagan's fast.
