Jagan dubs KCR Hitler about Krishna, Godavari projects aimed at running AP dry

Mon, May 16, 2016, 01:27 PM
YS Jaganmohan Reddy, YCP leader, on Monday pleaded with Telangana Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, not to turn a Hitler and hog all the water in the krishna and Godavari rivers for his State to the detriment of the Andhras.

He charged that KCR was taking away waters from the krishna river by constructing the Palamuru and Dindi and Rangareddy projects. Under the AP Reorganisation Act, no new projects other than the permitted ones should be constructed.

The permitted projects on the Krishna are the Handri-Neeva, Telugu Ganga, Kalwakurthy, Velugodu, Nettempadu and Galeru Nagari. Of these, Kalwakurthy and Nettempadu alone are the projects permitted in Telangana.

Jagan questioned KCR that if the waters first flowed into Telangana, would Telangana have proprietary rights over it?

The YCP leader said if the water level was not maintained at 854 ft at Srisailam, the entire delta in Andhra would turn a desert, severely affecting the four districts of Rayalaseema, Nellore, Prakasam, Krishna and Guntur.

He said whatever understanding that KCR had with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on the 299 tmc Krishna Water to Telangana was for 1 year only. That was for 2015. It was not a permanent understanding.

As for the Godavari, Telangana was trying to gobble up 70,000 cusecs of water to force the river in Andhra to run dry. As a result, there was 0 cusecs water at the Dowlaishwaram barrage in May 2016. It had been coming down since October last, to become zero this month.

He said Telangana was building Kaleshwaram, Devadula, Tupakulaguda, Sitarama and Bhakta Ramdas projects on the Godavari, to take away 70,000 cusecs of water, to make the river run sand dry in Andhra.

The YCP leader told KCR that he had made a drama to take away Hyderabad, depriving Andhra of not only capital but also jobs. Now he was out to deprive the State of water also.

He reminded KCR that for 1 tmc of water Telangana had to plead repeatedly with Karnataka, which disregarded the request despite a visit by Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao to Karnataka. It was only after the Congress leaders had intervened that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah had relented. Now Karnataka was releasing 1 tmc water to Mahbubnagar.

Jagan questioned the stunning silence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in regard to the threats being posed by Telangana in the waters for Andhra.

Jagan, who went on a fast in Kurnool, said instead of fighting on waters like India and Pakistan, they should ensure continuous flow of waters to both Andhra and Telangana. Otherwise, he warned of `Indo-pak war' on the river waters issue, as the clairvoyant sage Brahmamgaru had predicted in the region.

He said it was in 2011 that he had made a joint representation in the undivided AP for ensuring water supply from the rivers in Delhi. He had also written about 10 letters to the authorities there
about the project constructions in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

He urged KCR to reverse the geography of the Andhra and Telangana regions, and imagine how he would feel as the downstream State! Just because Telangana was upstream, it could not take away all the waters.

While Jagan did not say that, just look at Marathwada, where some 10 projects were constructed by the ambitious Congress government in Maharashtra. Marathwada faced the deadliest drought in a century within 1 year. So water projects to the detriment of a downstream State is no answer to one's own problems.
