KVP Bill on SCS gains sudden importance

Thu, May 12, 2016, 03:07 PM
There are chances that the Private Member's Bill on the Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh moved by Congress Elder KVP Ramachandra Rao could get passed in the Rajya Sabha if it is called for voting in the House.

The BJP, which is ambivalent on the Bill, is in a minority in the House. The other parties, which are out to attack the BJP on something or other, will surely try to embarrass the ruling party at the Centre by voting on the Private Member's Bill, whether they like it or not.

Andhra Pradesh will thus get by default what it lost by default. However, it will have to be referred to the other House also.

With KVP's Bill assuming importance now, the Congress leaders went into a secret meeting in his House in Delhi on Thursday. They are stated to be meeting on the strategy to be adopted by them should it come up for discussion and voting by tomorrow when the House adjourns sine die.

Although the TDP is in alliance with the BJP, should the Bill come for voting, it cannot escape endorsing the Bill, what with CM Ramesh and other leaders making their mind clear on the SCS.

If only the Congress members realized how they could corner the BJP with the KVP Bill, they would give up their dubious stance on the SCS and vote for the Private Member's Bill.
