PM guns for Sonia Gandi in Agusta kickbacks deal

Sat, May 07, 2016, 10:46 AM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attacked the Congress in connection with the AgustaWestland kickbacks. He flayed the top congress leadership, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi without naming her, as having partaken in the payoffs.

Addressing an election rally at Hosur ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the Prime Minister said the top Congress leaders' names emerged as the recipients of the kickbacks not in India but in Italy, with which this country had not much to do.

Since the top Congress leadership was shown as corrupt in Italy, `must we not start an inquiry into the kickbacks received by them?' he asked the meeting in his characteristic style `yes or no' eliciting an afirmative answer.

Hitting out at the promise of laptops and cell phones as announced by the DMK parties, the Prime Minister said poverty cannot be removed by giving mangoes. `You give a mango sapling to the poor so they can raise a tree and thousands of mangoes year after year, and thus becoe rich.

The Prime Minister revealed the resolve of the BJP-led government to go after the recipients of the kickbacks, however powerful and mighty the recipients might be to cover their tracks and hide their money trail.
