Bell tolls in Bhairava temple in Srinagar

Fri, Apr 29, 2016, 02:02 PM
The famous Bhairava temple in Srinagar was reopened after 27 years on Friday on the occasion of Bhairav Jayanti.

The bells in the temple tolled, as some of the Kashmiri Pandits who have left the valley in lakhs gathered courage to reopen the temple. The Pandits have left the valley to safer areas such as New Delhi following the Islamic fundamentalists running their writ in the valley, defying the `kashmiriyat' which is essentially secular in character.

The Kashmiri people in general are secular, but in the face of Pakistani-sponsored terrorism they have been generally subdued.

The Bhiarava temple was closed in 1990, when separatists held the people in the valley to ransom. Now, after 27 years, the lamps were lighted again in the temple.

Kalabhairav is the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva, Who in this form is accompanied by a dog.
