No cash only kind as Centre extends IISC to Tirupati

Wed, Apr 20, 2016, 02:55 PM
While not according Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, the Centre is shying away from giving cash to the funds-starved AP government but extending help to the State in kind.

The Union Cabinet meeting on Wednesday announced an agriculture university at Rajamahendravaram. It also decided to set up an Indian Institute of Science at Tirupati with an outlay of Rs 136 crore.

The Centre also decided to set up a Tobacco Research Centre at Rajamahendravaram.

The AP government was informed about the developments on Wednesday afternoon.

All this is fine, but the funds for the capital construction in the Amaravati-Guntur-Vijaywada region is not getting much Central attention. Neither the State government is demanding the funds. The Central agencies are, on the other hand, alleging diversion of funds by the State government.
